Goole AFC 3 Bamber Bridge 3

Pictures by David Robinson

There has been a lot going on in the last month or so with Paul Marshall losing his job, and Nigel Danby Taking over as Caretaker player-manager.

The performances have been of an upward trend since Nigel took over with the introduction of Benn and Dawson from Bradford park avenue, but the performance dipped again against Bamber Bridge and shows that we still need three or four new players.

The match started off brightly enough with a goal for Watts, which I missed as I was still looking at the team selection board! Never mind. Goole then went to sleep and allowed Bamber Bridge to then score three goals without reply. Most of the team were under performing, which was sickening for the home fans after such a good display mid-week against Blyth by a team made up of a mix of first teamers and youth team members!

With time running out and with a few tactical substitutions things started to look a bit brighter, With goals from Nigel Danby and Steve Davey to bring the scores level.

in the end either team could have snatched a win, but to be honest Goole did not deserve a win on this performance. The Bamber Bridge manager must have been fuming to see his team give away a two goal lead to a team who were not performing very well, but all credit to the lads for fighting back and securing a much needed point. To be honest though, after that early goal I think most of us were looking foreward to three points in the bag!

To sum up a pretty poor performance from most of the team, with mistakes made all over the pitch. With a bit of luck we could have had a penalty in the second half, and a couple of the Bamber players were lucky not to be shown the red card! Let's hope for a better display on Tuesday night against Eccleshill in the west riding cup. The worrying thing was Goole scored three goals, with only one coming from our attacking players!

Man of the match difficult to pick out, but I think Rob Constable may just have shaded it, with Benn and Dawson both having bad games.
