Welcome to Goole A.F.C.
Eric Lawton
Vice Chairman
Eric first saw Goole Town in 1947 when his father took him to watch the team play at York City in the Yorkshire League, he has followed football in Goole ever since.

Eric recalls going to see Goole play Tranmere Rovers in the FA Cup once, but then missed the FA Cup match with Nottingham Forest in 1956 due to Her Majesty requiring him to serve two years in the Royal Engineers.

He then joined the committee at Goole Town in the seventies and was Vice Chairman when the club had a great run in the FA Cup during the 1976/1977season. Coming through the qualifying rounds beating Farsley Celtic, Appleby, Frodingham, Mexborough Town, Boston United and Barrow in the first round proper. Goole then found themselves playing the top of the 3rd Division Wrexham in the second round, reports say it was a good game with Goole scoring late to make it 1-1 the attendance was 5721. The replay at Goole the following Tuesday saw the home team lose 1-0 before a magnificent crowd of 4322. It was a great night with all the Wrexham officials heaping praise on the team and the clubs hospitality.

After a number of years as Chairman in the eighties Eric stood down and left the task of furthering the clubs fortunes to others and started to enjoy watching his football from the terraces. It was not until the demise of Goole Town and the birth of the now Goole AFC that Eric was again involved in helping to run the club along with a few other stalwarts,
What he did not expect was that he would be back in the role of Vice Chairman.
