After seven weeks of warm-up, training, pre-season friendlies etc. etc., the day dawns on Saturday when the serious business of league points begins in earnest.
A new-look Vikings side, essentially down to the fact that the club still find themselves in the Northern Counties East Premier Division, should not detract from the fact that that Goole AFC are still regarded as one of the favorites for promotion this time around.
However, it will need a good start, and not one where in the previous campaigns it has taken a month or more to get warmed up, and that has not only meant some inconsistencies in the league, but early cup exits in the national competitions.
What manager Paul Marshall has generally stood by are those that have been regulars in pre-season training. That may change - and once players expecting better things at higher clubs so to speak, find themselves on the periphery there, expect them to be sniffing around the Pleasure Grounds once more.
Whether they find themselves a way back will depend on the form and fitness of the squad assembled, which consist of new faces Chris Hill in goal, defenders Dave Watts, midfielder's Graeme Whitehead, Tony Wetherall and several who have emerged from last season’s reserves, notably Adam Walker and Craig Gorman.
Two home games to start with could not be better, six points has to be the aim, but as Maltby and Hallam will be looking for good starts for their own purposes, it is important that Paul Marshall has his players focused from the first whistle.
So the invitation is to be at the Pleasure Grounds on Saturday, kick off 3pm and on Tuesday at 7.45pm, and join the Vikings and their new sponsors EITI. of Howden in getting their partnership off to a perfect start.
